 Day 2

After a well needed rest, we all went down for our buffet breakfast that had a wide range of food which just about fed all 19 of us. We then got ready and headed for our first activity in Berlin, the TV tower. On our walk there, Eloise spotted some small trampolines built into the ground who told Alice about this which led her to sprinting to them and immediately jumping on them. As soon as the rest of us found out about this amazing discovery we made our way there and had a turn, bringing out our inner child. While on the trampolines we saw a bear statue and from excitement we all dashed to it and took a photo (Izzy J was of course found lying on the floor).

Eventually we made it to the TV tower with lots of enthusiasm and lots of fear as we all looked up at the 368m of concrete and steel towering over us (although we could only go up 203m).

On our way to the lift we spotted another bear statue again. Going up was very suspenseful as you could see the cables quickly lifting you up a never ending tunnel. We stepped out into the dome, some more fearful than others, and saw this incredible view with lots information telling us about the sights of Berlin all around.

We then had to buy our lunch in a local supermarket and the plan was to buy a sandwich, piece of fruit and another snack. However this did not work as there weren’t enough sandwiches for 19 hungry girl guides so instead we got to pick our own food from the shop. We then had some free time around Berlin to buy souvenirs or just explore and on my group’s adventure we saw a minion (it was awesome)!

After we then had a wonder to the shop that blessed us, New Yorker (best shop)! Then we ate our lunch on the edge of a fountain.

Later, we took the German underground to the Olympic Stadium which also hosted Euros this year. We arrived and obviously took many group photos in-front of it (no photos = didn’t happen).

At 14:30 we met our tour guide who immediately had something to say about Olivia the mascot of Rainbows (she said she was ugly).

We walked through the big entrance at the front which lead us to some seats that slid back and forth which we LOVED. We walked through the stadium while having the constant reminder that the local team never win anything from the tour guide. At some point we even got to sit in the VIP section which is invite only (it was super comfy). Later we went to the changing rooms and got to see the showers and a HUGE hot tub. Then we got to the press conference room and did a short interview with some people (it was more like talking to a brick wall).

On our way out we of course had to revisit the slidey seats and decided to do a race to see who can go back and forth the fastest. It was a big challenge with lots of competitive Rangers wanting the win; the countdown began and we all used all our remaining strength to win. Congratulations to Saskia who won this almost Olympic challenge! On our way out we spotted some more bear statues!

Then we got back to our hostel and relaxed while we waited for dinner time. We had our dinner in a nice German restaurant and headed back to pack for our adventure the next day.

Until next time
