Saturday 10th August 2024 🚂

Day 10

We started off as usual with breakfast at the hostel and afterwards we each got a badge and a group photo with the group of Girl Guides from North East England who are also Interrailing around Europe. 



Izzy discovered on the tram that she'd left her phone at the hostel that we had checked out of and she isn't sure where it was left which we have now been back to and found.

Afterwards, we went to a chocolate making workshop and museum where we all got to make 3 chocolate bars and choose what to put on them and what flavour. We also made an Aztec hot chocolate which had chilli and cinnamon in.






We went to a spa for the afternoon to have some chill time and cool off in the 32° heat, which had lots of different pools and water slides for everyone to enjoy as well as sun beds for those who wanted to just lay down and read or have a sleep.



On the way back, Saskia and Lilien decided that they had enough of us all today and did not get off the train when they were meant to, so we had to give them instructions on when to get off and we all had floor time whilst we waited for them to get back. Which luckily they did!



In the evening we went to Vapiano for tea and are now waiting to get the sleeper train to Florence.

Hi there, We are team Inter-Rail 2024, welcome to our blog! Our journey started back last July at the SWE region INTOPS selection weekend. Alongside roughly 40 other Guides and Rangers, our 14 Rangers did lots of challenges to show their teamwork and leadership skills and commitment to Guiding!  After a long wait.. all the girls received emails with the news that they had been selected for the Inter-Railing trip across Europe! Well done girls! We spent the next few months getting to know each other over zoom, talking about fundraising, planning our route and designing our badges and uniform! Our chosen route is... London - Berlin - Prague - Krakow - Vienna - Florence - Our Chalet Our first pre weekend finally arrived... and we could not wait! We had a fantastic time getting to know each other, doing some archery and air rifle shooting, orienteering and making paracord keychains. We also made amazing progress with planning our trip! Thursday 1st August 2024🚂

Day 1 At 5:30 19 backpack-loaded rangers and leaders arrived at St Pancras International Station and promptly began to clog the pavement. After allowing the oncoming foot traffic through and taking a few pre-departure photos, we boarded the Eurostar! Spirits were  high (and generally smelling of Macdonalds breakfast muffins). After around 2 hours we made it to Belgium! However this excitement was short-lived as we sprinted through the station to catch our connecting train. But, through the power of Girlguiding, and sheer number, we successfully delayed the train until we got on! Once again settling in for a couple of hours, with much tote-bag decoration and somewhat aggressive games of Exploding Kittens taking place. We did have a brief run-in with the police as we saw a random man running down the train, but they seemed to fix things and the train continued on to Cologne. Friday 2nd August 2024🚂

  Day 2 After a well needed rest, we all went down for our buffet breakfast that had a wide range of food which just about fed all 19 of us. We then got ready and headed for our first activity in Berlin, the TV tower. On our walk there, Eloise spotted some small trampolines built into the ground who told Alice about this which led her to sprinting to them and immediately jumping on them. As soon as the rest of us found out about this amazing discovery we made our way there and had a turn, bringing out our inner child. While on the trampolines we saw a bear statue and from excitement we all dashed to it and took a photo (Izzy J was of course found lying on the floor).  Eventually we made it to the TV tower with lots of enthusiasm and lots of fear as we all looked up at the 368m of concrete and steel towering over us (although we could only go up 203m).  On our way to the lift we spotted another bear statue again.
